SURF THE WORLD IN A MACHINE COSTING LESS THAN $1,000?.
That is right, there are now a number of good quality computers
with the capability to let you take full advantage of the marvelous
media
of surfing the World Wide Web for $1,000 or less. So-o-o you say I can
see the world via TV at less cost. Which is true but at present you
cannot interact with TV like you can via Computer on the WEB.
In order to get the full use of the World Wide Web one should have a
computer with at least a 486 engine, 14.4 modem (28.8 or 33 is better)
a CD Rom drive, 8mgbytes of Ram 16 is recommended, a hard drive of 1.2
or more gigabytes and a .28 VCA monitor, a sound card and audio
receiver.
To get an idea of what is available there is an interesting WEB site
at http://www.computers.com/ that gives one an idea of what is
available for about $1,000.
There are a number of local computer supply stores that have or can
get you "state of the art" computers that will make it possible for you
to "surf" the World Wide Web with ease and excitement at prices ranging
from $1,000 to $1,500 including the monitor.
This writer got his WEB compatible computer from Duo-Tech Services , a
local supplier from the Tomah/Wilton, area in August
of 1996 at a cost of less than $1,200 for the (whole ball of wax)
including a three year warranty and local service. There are times
in ones life when we run across a person or business that just makes
one feel good to know them and trust them to give you the best service
available in their field. Such has been my experience working with
Barbara Jacobson, from Wilton and her partner at Duo-Tech Services,
Rosanne Reinart, from Tomah.
Barbara & husband Jerry have two grown children and four
grandchildren. Rosanne has a daughter in college. Although Rosanne
continues to hold a full time job,
Barb spends full time at their Duo-Tech business. Perhaps some of you
will remember Barbara as the person who had the column in the Senior
Sampler a year or so ago where she listed business sites that were
wheelchair accessible. It was written under the title B.J. on Wheels.
"We liked working with computers and saw a need for computer repair
people in this area and our computer repair business has grown
substantially over these past five years. Give us any computer repair
problem and we will do our best to solve it for you," said Barbara,
reminding me that, "The repair business led people, like you, wanting
us to get them computers and so now we are doing both". Their home
business is called DUO-TECH and they can be reached at Ph 608-435-6871
or 608-734-5700. Their e-mail address is
duotech@centuryinter.net
