Bill Weber -
We have been planning for six months, ( click on WHAT A LOVELY SUPRISE !!! at our December 22 WEB page) and now that day has arrived. The first thing I will do is to check the 4 day weather report for the Tomah area at: http://cnn.com/WEATHER/html/TomahWI.html and then I will clicked over to see what the 4 day weather report would be at San Remo, Italy. http://cnn.com/WEATHER/html/GenoaItaly.html In comparing for the past ten days it shows that there is not much difference in the temperature were we will be staying in Italy, than what we are having here.
By the time this report is on the streets of Tomah (5:00pm May 14th ,Tomah time,) Go to TIME AROUND THE WORLD at: > http://www.w2d.com/koala- net/worldtimezone.htm we will be asleep (midnight at the Nyala Hotel) in San Remo, Italy, on the Italian Riviria. Take a look at their WEB page at: > http://www.nyalahotel.com < .
Our flight plans are that we will fly out of LaCrosse on American Airlines Eagle at 1:30pm Wed., May 13th, arrive in Chicago at 2:40 pm and board the flight to Italy at 6:30pm, that same afternoon, arriving at the Milan Airport at 10:30am Thursday morning. At that time we will convert some of our Travelers Checks to Italian Lira, the exchange rate varies daily but at this writing (Monday May 11th it was around 1745.25. Lira to one US dollar. Go to > http://quote.yahoo.com/m3?u< for a fast conversion table. See my Cyberspace report for Dec.22nd for US dollar conversion to Italian as well as other foreign currencies.
After exchanging dollars for Italian Lira. we will then take the shuttle bus to the Railroad Station in Milan, at 12:30pm we take the train from Milan to SanRemo . Arriving there at 4:30pm where we will be picked up by a car from our Hotel.
Most of our last minute details were all worked out over the Internet and an 800 phone number with American Airlines. It is fantastic what one can accomplish via the Internet.
If all works out for the rest of trip as it has via computers and e-mail it should be smooth flying.. We will have a REPORT here and on our WEB page upon return. As of yet I do not have a lap top computer where I can post daily reports on my WEB page. I had been in Italy back in 1946 but Thema had never been so we go this chance we said, "let's go."
Here are a few e-mail messages that have been exchanged on the subject of our Italy sweepstakes award. Mary Weber, no relation, is the coordinator of the Wisconsin Public Televison Sweepstakes. Ellen Schenone, is our Italy contact and Giancarlo Negro is Manager of the Nyala Suite Hotel at SanRemo where we will be staying the first four nights.

Dear Mr. Negro,
It is my pleasure to send you this prize award confirmation for our 1997 Grand Prize Italy Trip Winners, Bill & Thema Weber.
I have been in touch with the Webers since I had the pleasure of calling them to announce that their names had been picked for our Grand Prize.
Mr. Weber forwarded your e-mail address to me, so I thought to send you this award notification for your records. I have reassured them that they will be well taken care of throughout their stay in Italy.
I must say that this is the first prize package I've coordinated that had the advantage of electronic communication and I've really appreciated it. Being able to 'talk' with Ellen Schenone and Mr. Weber via e-mail has brought a personal level to this campaign that has been both refreshing and very efficient!
Best Wishes.

Dear Mr. Weber,
Thank you for your e-mail. Please note that we sent you your rail pass last Monday (4/27)by FedEx and I checked today the status of this shipment. I believe you will receive the envelope either today or tomorrow. I included some brochures which I hope you will enjoy reading. Furthermore, the local Tourist Board should be sending you additional information on the Portovenere/La Spezia area.
Liras come in paper money (1,000/2,000/5,000/10,000/50,000/100,000/500,000) and also in metal money (50/100/200/500).
>What about the Hotel breakfasts.
The breakfasts are included in buffet style for all guests at the hotel where you help yourselves to what is offered. If you desire something else, you can order it aside (at additional cost). If you need any further information you may ask at the reception desk of the hotel.
Warmest regards to you both.
Sincerely,
